Motor Types
Tubular battery motor (rechargeable Li-ion, 12-month typical recharge cycle, no wiring needed). Tubular DC plug-in motor (12V or 24V, low-voltage transformer in plug socket). Tubular mains motor (240V hardwired, for new-build chase routes and rooflight install).
Control Platforms
Somfy RTS, proven radio control, handset and wall switch only. Somfy io, full app, voice and HomeKit via Tahoma. Eve, native HomeKit with Thread, app, voice, HomeKit scenes. Matter, universal, works with HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings simultaneously.
Smart-Home Scenes
Morning lift at sunrise. Evening dip at sunset. Privacy dip during video calls. Holiday mode (random open/close to simulate occupancy). Temperature-reactive (close on south-facing windows when room exceeds 24°C). Geofencing (close on departure, open on return).
Power Supply Strategy
Battery: easy to retrofit, no wiring, 12-month recharge. Plug-in DC: tidy in new builds where a socket is near the headrail. Mains: best for high-cycle use and rooflights where access is difficult.
Rooflight & High-Window Specification
Mains motor + Somfy io + wind/rain sensor. The window is typically inaccessible without a ladder, so the motor must be specified for reliability and long service life.
Smart Home Integration Detail
HomeKit: native via Eve, or via Somfy Tahoma bridge for io. Alexa / Google Home: native on Eve and Tahoma. Matter: increasingly the default for new specifications, works across all major ecosystems without bridge dependencies.

How much do motorised blinds cost?
Motorised blinds are priced from the equivalent manual blind plus the motor and control upgrade. Multi-blind discounts on orders of 4+.
Will they work with HomeKit / Alexa / Google Home?
Yes, we specify the platform on survey based on what you already use. Eve and Matter are native; Somfy io requires the Tahoma bridge for HomeKit.
Do I need to wire anything?
Not necessarily. Battery motors retrofit with zero wiring and last 9–12 months between charges in a typical room. Wired options are for new builds and rooflights.
Can I motorise existing blinds?
Sometimes, depends on tube and bracket compatibility. We can assess on a 10-minute site visit and confirm honestly.
How long do the batteries last?
9–12 months in a typical north-facing room, with twice-daily operation. Less in high-temperature south-facing rooms, we specify mains in those cases.
What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down?
Stand-alone motor function (handset, wall switch) is unaffected. Only the app and voice control are dependent on Wi-Fi. RTS systems operate entirely without Wi-Fi.
Can you set scheduled scenes?
Yes, sunrise lift, sunset close, video call dip, geofence-based open/close, temperature-reactive. We set 3–5 scenes on the fit day to your specification.
How long is the lead time?
2–4 weeks from survey to fit. Commissioning is included on the fit day, typically 60–90 minutes per home.
